I usually stick to 15lb leaders but when the big gator Bluefish are there I step it up to 20lb. All the fish were caught on 15 or 20 lbs fluorocarbon leader with light tackle and chrome jigs. All toll they caught maybe 25-30 big bluefish and a half. All their bluefish on that tide were at or over 10 lbs. These are the first really big bluefish I’ve seen on the reefs this year. Anyway…we were too short on time but were long on the fishing anyway. Instead of picking away at a fish here and there, the outgoing tide was getting them a gator bluefish at nearly every cast. The False Albacore that showed up on 9/2 disappeared with all the rain, hurricane and dirty water but are just starting to show up again. We only had a half day so couldn’t run too far but Max was able to get his first Albie…bummer that we lost it at the boat so we weren’t able to get the picture. From there we went on the hunt towards Watch Hill for Albies. Not an exaggeration to say we caught one HUGE BLUEFISH after another until all three of us were worn out. Max hooked up almost immediately and Billy wasn’t far behind. Went to my favorite spot for HUGE Bluefish and were immediately rewarded with the big gators. Spotted seatrout, flounder, redfish, pompano, Spanish mackerel and bluefish available nearby in. Fishing the ebb tide hasn’t been nearly as good as the flood tide but these fish changes the game. bluegill and catfish in Gator Lake ( 40 acres ). Caught 4 of them with this one the biggest at 18lbs. Max hadn’t done much fishing but we fixed that in just a few short hours. Gator Bluefish Jcaptpeter9 Fished a half day with a regular, Kyle, Sunday afternoon. Fished with a very experienced fisherman (and regular client), Billy, and his long time pal Max.
